Elton John will perform at a Los Angeles County Museum of Art gala next month, organizers announced Tuesday.
John will sing at the 2022 Art+Film Gala on Nov. 5. This year’s event will honor artist Helen Pashgian, an influential pioneer of Southern California’s light and space movement, and trailblazing Korean filmmaker Park Chan-wook.
Past honorees include artists Kehinde Wiley, Amy Sherald, Betye Saar, Catherine Opie, Mark Bradford, Robert Irwin, James Turrell, Barbara Kruger, David Hockney, Ed Ruscha, and John Baldessari, and filmmakers Steven Spielberg, Alfonso Cuarón, Guillermo del Toro, George Lucas, Kathryn Bigelow, Alejandro González Inárritu, Quentin Tarantino, Martin Scorsese, Stanley Kubrick and Clint Eastwood.
LACMA trustee Eva Chow and actor Leonardo DiCaprio will co-chair the event for the 11th consecutive year.
Proceeds from the annual gala underwrite LACMA’s initiative to make film more central to the museum’s programming, while also funding LACMA’s broader mission that includes exhibitions, acquisitions and educational programming, in addition to screenings that explore the intersection of art and film.
More information can be found at www.lacma.org/ArtPlusFilmGala.
John will play three shows at Dodger Stadium later in November as part of his farewell tour. He announced last year that his final shows in the United States would be at Dodger Stadium on Nov. 19-20, then added a third show at the stadium on Nov. 17.
The 75-year-old pop superstar has recently enjoyed a resurgence on the pop charts, with 2021’s “Cold Heart” — a remix/mashup featuring Dua Lipa and produced by Australian trio Pnau — and this year’s “Hold Me Closer,” a mashup of “Tiny Dancer,” “The One” and “Don’t Go Breaking My Heart” featuring Britney Spears.
