

Tuesday is the deadline to submit ballots in the special election to fill the vacant 49th Assembly District seat in the western San Gabriel Valley.
Vote centers will remain open until 8 p.m. The district consists of Alhambra, Arcadia, El Monte, Monterey Park, Rosemead, San Gabriel, San Marino, Temple City and portions of Montebello and South El Monte. Locations of vote centers are available at locator.lavote.gov/locations/vc?culture=en.
All centers will follow public health and safety guidelines related to COVID-19.
The special election was called by Gov. Gavin Newsom to fill the seat previously held by Democrat Edwin Chau of Arcadia, who was appointed by Newsom on Nov. 29 to be a Los Angeles County Superior Court judge.
Democrat Mike Fong, director of policy and government relations for the Los Angeles Department of Neighborhood Empowerment and member of the Los Angeles Community College District Board of Trustees, is facing Republican Burton Brink, a retired Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department sergeant, in the predominantly Democratic district.
