A pedestrian was hit by a vehicle and killed Wednesday while crossing a street in Long Beach, police said.
The man was struck at about 5:50 a.m. at Pacific Coast Highway and Lewis Avenue and died at the scene, the Long Beach Police Department reported. Authorities were working to determine the man’s identity.
“The preliminary investigation revealed the pedestrian was crossing southbound on Pacific Coast Highway, outside of a crosswalk, when he was struck by a vehicle traveling eastbound,” police said in a statement.
The 2009 Honda Pilot was driven by a 24-year-old resident of Signal Hill, who remained at the scene and cooperated with officers, police said. The motorist’s name was not released.
“At this time, speed, impaired driving, and distracted driving are not believed to be a factor in this collision,” police said.
