Some Southern California Edison customers in Irwindale were intermittently without electricity Thursday after a trailer slammed into one of the utility company’s poles.
Officers from the Irwindale Police Department received a call at 2:22 a.m. regarding a collision at Irwindale Avenue between Foothill Boulevard and the Foothill (210) Freeway. They learned that a trailer from a semi became detached and slammed into an SCE pole, which then struck an adjacent utility pole, Sgt. Greg Gomez said.
Damage to the poles caused intermittent power outages and closed the southbound lanes of Irwindale Avenue between Foothill Boulevard and the freeway for several hours, Gomez said.
SCE personnel were at the scene assisting Irwindale police in the morning hours.
“We’re investigating why the trailer became detached from the semi,” Gomez told City News Service.
No one was injured in the collision, according to Gomez.
