9-hour DUI checkpoint planned in Pasadena Friday night

The Pasadena Police Department announced Tuesday that they will be holding a DUI/Driver’s License Checkpoint from 6 p.m. to 3 a.m. at an undisclosed location on Friday, July 29.

During checkpoints, officers will be stopping drivers to observe for any signs of unsafe driving habits, such as driving under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs along with checking for proper licensing.

The location of the checkpoint will be determined by previous DUI incidents in the city of Pasadena, such as recent arrests or crashes.

“The safety of our community is and always will be our mission,” Lieutenant Anthony Russo said. “We are looking for impaired drivers because driving under the influence is dangerous and puts others on the road at risk.”

According to Pasadena PD, the primary focus of the checkpoints are not to make arrests, but rather to “promote public safety by deterring drivers from driving impaired.”

In March, the Pasadena PD conducted a DUI/Driver’s Licenses checkpoint at Arroyo Parkway and Cordova St. that accumulated 19 arrests, with four of those being dealt with DUI charges.
