Third arrest made in connection to Monrovia March murder

With the assistance of detectives from the Monrovia Police Department and Pasadena Police Department, Los Angeles County Sheriff’s investigators were able to identify two adults and one juvenile involved in the murder of Darione Jones. The shooting occurred on Monday, March 29, 2021, at approximately 5:25 p.m. on the 100 block of East Los Angeles Avenue in Monrovia.

On April 15, investigators arrested a 17-year-old as he was being released from the Pasadena Police Department on an unrelated charge. On April 19, the Eastlake District Attorney’s Office filed one count of murder with the allegation he personally used a firearm.

On April 19, investigators arrested one of the adults, 20-year-old Tanaj Johnson, as he was released from the Pasadena Police Department, also on an unrelated charge. On April 21, the District Attorney’s Office Community Violence Reduction Division filed one count of murder against Johnson with the allegation that he personally used a firearm and one count of animal cruelty because he shot a dog during the shooting of Jones. 

On Sunday, May 23, investigators learned that 20-year-old Christian Hall had been arrested by Pasadena Police Department, also on an unrelated charge. Hall was then charged with Jones’ murder. On Tuesday, the District Attorney’s Office Community Violence Reduction Division filed one count of murder against Hall with the allegation he personally used a firearm.

The investigation is ongoing and there is no additional information available at this time.
