Authorities today were offering a $10,000 reward to generate clues in the killing of a 63-year-old man whose body was found close to a hiking trail near Mount Baldy Road north of Claremont last month.
The body of Gerald “Miles” Purdue was found near the 3.09-mile marker on Mount Baldy Road on March 25, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.
He had suffered a shotgun wound to the chest, the Los Angeles County coroner’s office reported.
“Purdue was an avid hiker and frequented the Mount Baldy area,” a sheriff’s statement said.
Detectives learned that a black older-model four-door sedan was seen in the same turnout where Purdue’s car was parked. No description was available of a suspect or suspects.
The Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors authorized a reward of $10,000 for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the suspect or suspects.
Anyone with more information on the killing was urged to call the Sheriff’s Homicide Bureau at 323-890-5500 or Crime Stoppers at 800-222-TIPS.
