Brenda Nanomantube, a former bartender at The Bucaneer Lounge and Gem City Grill, told ABC7’s Carlos Granda that she hasn’t had steady work since March due to COVID-19 forcing many businesses to close.
“I’mthree and a half months behind on my rent,” she says. But Nanomantube does notblame her landlord. “You can’t blame her, she has to pay her mortgage, I’m notmad at her,” she says.
Nanomantubealso takes care of her grandson during the day so her daughter can focus on heronline college classes and working from home.
“Asfar as grandma goes, they’re not gonna get presents from grandma. Grandma doesn’thave the money,” she told ABC7. “Grandma can’t even pay the bills. And how doyou explain to a 7-year-old that he’s not gonna get any presents from grandma.”
Nanomantube has created a GoFundMe that has so far raised $8,190 of the $10,000 goal.
“Iam doing everything I can to make extra money to try and make ends meet.Selling my artwork, selling personal items on EBay and taking any odds and endjobs that come my way,” she wrote on the fundraising page.
“I’vereached out to every resource I can think of, I have applied and been deniedfor rental assistance. I just don’t know where else to turn,” she writes. “SoI’m swallowing my pride and humbly asking you all for any support and/ordonations you can give. Even if it’s just sharing my link on your social media.”
