East Valley rail line project’s environmental impacts subject of October meetings

The East Valley Light Rail project is expected to begin construction in 2022 and be completed in 2028. The public will have another chance this month to weigh in on the environmental impact of Metro’s light rail project in northeast San Fernando Valley along which 14 stations are set to be constructed. On Friday, Oct. 2, Metro released the final environmental impact report of the East San Fernando Valley Light Rail project for review, and is taking public comment until Nov. 2. The report can be downloaded at http://www.metro.net/eastsfvtransit and a hard copy can be requested by calling (818) 701-3844. The 9.2-mile stretch of the line will connect the G Line, also known as the Orange Line, with the Metrolink station in the Sylmar and San Fernando area, via Van Nuys Boulevard and along a rail right-of-way parallel to San Fernando Road. The project’s route and features were selected by Metro’s board of directors in 2018, and it is being funded by $1.3 billion in money primarily from locally approved tax measures M and R, and the state gas tax.
