Voluntarilyevacuation notice for residents north of Foothill Boulevard and east of SantaAnita Avenue
Tuesdaynight, the City of Arcadia asked residents north of Foothill Boulevard and eastof Santa Anita Avenue to voluntarily evacuate as forecasts anticipated strongwinds during the overnight hours and into Wednesday morning.
Although there was no immediate threat of fire to Arcadia residences at the time, predictive modeling of both the weather and the Bobcat Fire suggested that circumstances could become more concerning overnight. Affected residents were asked to consider relocating for the evening to a family member’s house, hotel, or other temporary living arrangement if possible.
Theannouncement came as the Unified Incident Command of the Angeles NationalForest, Los Angeles County Fire Department, Monrovia Fire Department and the L.A.County Sheriff’s Department directed the residents of Duarte, Bradbury,Monrovia, Arcadia, Sierra Madre, Pasadena and Altadena below the Bobcat Fire toprepare to evacuate, as the fire continued to grow rapidly Tuesday night. The evacuationwarnings were still in place Wednesday morning as the fire grew to 11,456 acresand remained at 0% containment.
TheAmerican Red Cross Los Angeles Region has opened an evacuation point at SantaAnita Park (285 W. Huntington Dr., Arcadia, CA 91007) for those affected by theBobcat Fire. The evacuation point is a rest site for residents to gather andassess their needs and for the Red Cross to present lodging options. Residentscan access the evacuation point at Santa Anita Park via the Gate 5 entrance onHuntington Drive.
TheCity of Arcadia continues to monitor the situation and will notify residents ofa mandatory evacuation if conditions change. The City of Arcadia EmergencyOperations Center has been activated at its lowest level. The city manager hasissued a Declaration of Local Emergency paving the way for the city to enactemergency provisions in response to the fire. Arcadia Fire Department crewscontinue to conduct patrol and surveillance of the foothill areas.
