

Donations will be collected Aug. 22 at Methodist Church
Monrovian Nathan Schwandt is working on a special Eagle Scout project to help area homeless people.
Schwandt, a graduate of Monrovia High School’s Math and Science Academy, currently serves at Foothills Kitchen in Monrovia, a group of volunteers that depends on donations to prepare and serve a free meal to those in need.
In an email to Monrovia Weekly, Schwandt shares the premise of hisproject. “I am holding a donation drive for blankets, sleepingbags, tents, and brand new socks. The blankets and sleeping bags can be used, but they must be washed beforebrought to our collection day.” Monetarydonations will also be accepted and used topurchase new items that are still neededafter the collection day.
The collection day will be held at Methodist Church (140 E. Palm Ave.,Monrovia CA 91016) on Aug. 22 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Those who would like tohelp can also make donations through a GoFundMe page organizedby Schwandt.
Schwandt plans to attend Pasadena City College and says the projectappealed to him “because it helped so many people who are overlooked in oursociety. Sometimes people just need a little bit of help, and I am happy to offer that help for them.”
