Some Monrovia residents were awakened very early Thursday morningas officers from the Monrovia Police Department and agents from the CaliforniaDepartment of Fish and Wildlife caught a mountain lion that had been roamingthe city since Saturday, June 20.
According to authorities, the large cat was found in a crawlspaceunder house. Agents tranquilized the mountain lion and promptly removed it fromits hiding space.
The mountain lion will now be returned to its natural habitat inthe mountains.
On Tuesday, Monrovia PD reported that residents in the area of the 800 block of West Olive Avenue and the 600 block of South Monterey Avenue had spotted the big cat. Officials warned residents not to leave children or pets unattended outside as the large cat was seen jumping fences.
As temperatures increase, it’s not unusual to see mountain lions and bears in foothill communities searching for food and water. A mother bear and her cub were seen roaming a neighborhood in Arcadia this week as well.
