Arcadia Unified Campuses Will Stay Closed for Remainder of School Year

On Wednesday, the Los Angeles County Superintendent of Schools Debra Duardo recommended that schools remain physically closed for the rest of the academic year. Based on that recommendation, Arcadia Unified (AUSD) school campuses will be physically closed for the remainder of the school year, but distance learning and support for students will continue. 

“Our public health leaders have made it clear that the peakof this pandemic is yet to come. As social distancing practices remain vital,the safety of students and staff must continue to be our top priority,” Duardo said. “Deciding now to keepcampuses closed for the remainder of the school year allows our educationcommunity to focus on accelerating learning in a remote environment and findingnew ways to engage and connect with students.”

District officials recognize the challenges of distance learning.“Remote learning is a new experience for all of us. Our leadership team, incollaboration with our teachers and staff, work each day with the Los AngelesCounty Office of Education (LACOE) and the California Department of Education(CDE) to continue to identify solutions and innovations to support this newlearning environment.”  

The district will seek guidance from LACOE on question regarding graduation, grades, and other scheduled events and campus activities. As additional guidance is provided and logistics are coordinated, AUSD will provide further information as soon as possible. 

The district plans to continue to provide free meals for studentswho need them. The grab-and-go meals are available Monday-Friday from 11 a.m.to 1 p.m. in the Arcadia Performing Arts Center parking lot, located on theArcadia High School campus. For more information, click here. Spring Break is April 6-10. Further guidance on distance learningwill be provided after Spring Break.
