City of Arcadia Receives Over $1.5M in Annual Revenue from Santa Anita Park

TheCity of Arcadia receives over $1.5 million in annual revenue from Santa AnitaPark, according to a report from Keyser Marston Associates, which wascommissioned for the city’s Economic Development Division. Over the next fiveyears, the racetrack is estimated to generate $7.5 million in sales tax,pari-mutuel revenue and property tax.  

Accordingto the report, which was submitted in the fourth quarter of 2019, Santa AnitaPark is responsible for 1,160 jobs annually. It is estimated that theseemployees spend an average of nearly $5 million in off-site expenditures ondining, goods and services in the city of Arcadia. These numbers do not includethe more than 1,000 people, including trainers, jockeys, exercise riders andgroomers, who care for the horses housed in the Santa Anita stable area. Therevenue figures also do not include the financial impact of neighboring citiesin the San Gabriel Valley, such as Pasadena, Monrovia and Sierra Madre. 

Thereport concluded that Santa Anita draws between 1.3 and 1.5 million visitorsannually to the racetrack for both racing and non-racing events, with an annualconsumer spending of $31.9 million separate from pari-mutuel betting. 

Thenumbers cited in the Keyser Marston Associates report are exclusive of theincreased economic impact seen during years that Santa Anita hosts theBreeders’ Cup.
