School is back in session this week and with it Monrovia High School athletics will soon be in full swing. Here is a preview for the fall sports at Monrovia.
Although the team didn’t have the best record, 5-6, last year, the Wildcats have high expectations for this season. The team did make it to the playoffs in 2018 and looks to go deeper into the postseason this year led behind veteran players like quarterback Nick Hernandez and defensive back Gaylen Wilson.
Their first game of the season is on Aug. 16 at 7 p.m. at Northview. The team will have another away game at West Covina on Aug. 23 before hosting their first home game of the season on Aug. 30 at 7 p.m. against Alta Loma.
The Wildcats posted a strong 13-9 record last season, losing in the first round of the playoffs. The team returns three seniors and will be led by captains Julie Castaneda, Amber Dowell and Amber Shaw.
The team opens their season at the Lakewood Moulten Tournament in Los Angeles on Aug. 17 against Notre Dame Academy at 8:30 a.m. Their first home contest of the season is on Aug. 21 at 5:30 p.m. against South Hills.
The team opens their season on Sep. 17 at 3:15 p.m. at Arroyo. Their first home match is on Sep. 26 against La Canada at 3:30 p.m.
The squad opens their season at home on Sep. 17 at 3:30 p.m. against West Covina.
