Hundreds of educators from all over California descended upon Arcadia for the 5th Annual Arcadia Innovation Summit on Friday. More than 900 teachers, administrators and staff representing nearly 200 different school districts, schools, and educational organizations registered for what’s becoming a very popular conference hosted by the Arcadia Unified School District at no cost to attendees.
With the day-long professional development conference beginning in the Arcadia Performing Arts Center, it was a full house to hear Dr. Katie Martin’s inspirational keynote about the need and power of educators to engage their students, sparking a passion for what they are currently learning as well as cultivating a lifelong passion for learning. Following the motivational keynote, there were more than 80 breakout sessions offered on the Arcadia High School campus. The sessions ranged from powerful student panels to virtual reality and technology in the classroom, podcasting, project-based learning, educational leadership, student passion projects, social media in education, coding, and the latest tech tools.
Similar professional development opportunities and conferences would cost an educator a minimum of $200-300.
“We believe that students, communities, and the education system as a whole benefit when educators come together and start talking and sharing best practices. This is essential in education today. We are offering this summit for free to set an example of collaboration without costs and to put into practice what we believe,” said Arcadia Unified School District Superintendent Dr. David Vannasdall.
