Vice Mayor and Pasadena City Councilmember Tyron Hampton has officially filed a Candidate Intention Statement with the City of Pasadena City Clerk for re-election to the Pasadena City Council representing District 1.

Vice Mayor Hampton was born and raised in Pasadena, and attended PUSD schools. He is married to his high school (Muir) sweetheart, Tara Gomez-Hampton, Ph.D., who is an alumnus of UCLA and Caltech and together they have a preschool aged daughter.

District 1 is east of the Arroyo and is home to many landmarks, architectural wonders, and public institutions. This includes the Rose Bowl, the Rose Bowl Aquatic Center, the Rose Bowl Tennis Center, Brookside Golf Course, Norton Simon Museum, La Pintoresca Park, Library and Teen Center. The district’s schools include John Muir High, Washington STEAM Magnet Academy, Washington Accelerated Elementary, Cleveland Elementary, Roosevelt Elementary, Sequoia High School (independent), Chandler School (independent), and Pasadena Christian School (private). Other cultural landmarks include The Gamble House, Pasadena Museum of History, Kidspace Museum, Brookside Park, Reese’s Retreat Park, Hahamongna Watershed Park, and the Alkebulan Cultural Center.

The press release announcing Hampton’s reelection campaign read in part: “During his time as a councilmember, the city has balanced its budget every year. Tyron has also focused on quality of life issues. He was instrumental in preventing an NFL takeover of the Rose Bowl and District 1 currently has the lowest crime rate in the City of Pasadena.  As a former PUSD school board member, Tyron has successfully worked to increase cooperative support between the City of Pasadena and the PUSD.”
