The Department of Veteran Affairs (VA) Monday officially opened the San Gabriel Valley Community Based Outpatient Clinic (CBOC), the first Veterans clinic in the San Gabriel Valley in over eight years. The SGV CBOC, located at 7 W. Foothill Blvd. in Arcadia, will offer Veterans access to primary care, mental health care, telehealth, and basic laboratory services on an interim basis for the next three to five years until a larger, full-service clinic in the San Gabriel Valley is completed. Rep. Judy Chu (CA-27) has worked for years with the VA and community advocates to bring this clinic to her district and issued the following statement:
“I am so excited that, for the first time in almost a decade, we will have a Veterans health clinic right here in the San Gabriel Valley! For too long, because of the lack of a Veterans health clinic here in the San Gabriel Valley, the district’s over 45,000 U.S. Veterans who selflessly served our country were forced to drive long distances to clinics outside of our region just to obtain treatment for things like service-connected injuries or post-traumatic stress disorder. This has been a particularly difficult burden for Veterans who are elderly, lack personal transportation, are struggling to find full-time work, going to school, raising a family, or just beginning their transition to civilian life. But all of that is changing now, thanks to this new clinic. Since I first learned about the lack of a Veterans Health Clinic in 2013, following the redrawing of my Congressional district, I have been committed to working with the VA to find a suitable location. I’m so relieved that a site has been opened and our heroes can begin receiving the care they deserve without having to travel all day.”
