If you have not been part of a Pasadena Heritage tour, their upcoming Historic Homes and Gorgeous Garden Tour, scheduled for March 31, may be the one to encourage you to experience one. The reason? This tour features landscape designs that you will be able to appreciate in all their exaggerated vibrancy thanks to the lengthy rainy season Mother Nature has blessed us with. One of the highlights of this presentation will be a walking tour through the historic Old Mill that was once part of Pasadena’s Busch Gardens which was considered a popular city attraction.
Before the tour, this Thursday at 7 p.m. at Maranatha High School, there will be a lecture event presented by Bush Gardens researcher and historian Michael Logan. He will speak about how Adolphus Busch, industrialist and co-founder of the Anheiser-Busch Corporation, and his wife Lily purchased a winter home on Orange Grove Boulevard in 1904 and created a botanical work of art together.
Some of the stops included in the tour will be a couple of Victorian homes lush with landscaping beauty near the Wrigley Mansion. A classic Box Farmhouse in the Madison Heights neighborhood designed in 1902 will also be part of the tour. Its gardens were designed by Haynes Landscape Design 25 years ago; the design firm is also responsible for its recent renovation.
There will be plenty of more historic homes and gorgeous gardens to see during this drive-yourself tour. At each location there will be an instructor providing you with a guided tour of interior and exterior features. Some locations have narrow paths and steep terrain please be prepared for a rustic atmosphere in some parts of the tour presentation. Advance home tour tickets cost $43 for the general public and $38 for members. To purchase tickets, please click here.
