Based on the novel by Victor Hugo, the story of “Les Misérables” is one of love, courage, and redemption. Prisoner-on-parole, 24601, Jean Valjean, runs from the ruthless Inspector Javert on a journey beyond the barricades, at the center of the June Rebellion.
Set in early 19th-century France, “Les Misérables” is the story of French peasant Valjean and his desire for redemption after serving 19 years in jail for having stolen a loaf of bread for his sister’s starving child. Valjean decides to break his parole and start his life anew after a bishop inspires him by a tremendous act of mercy, but he is relentlessly tracked down by Javert. Along the way, Valjean and a slew of characters are swept into a revolutionary period in France, where a group of young idealists attempt to overthrow the government at a street barricade.
With music by Claude-Michel Schönberg and lyrics by Herbert Kretzmer, Musical Director Stephen Pu, Director Steven Volpe and Choreographer Jean Michelle Sayeg will bring this revolutionary tale to the Arcadia Performing Arts Center from March 14-16. There will be a 7 p.m. show on all three days with an extra performance on March 16 at 1 p.m. General admission is $15 while VIP seating costs $30. Students and seniors can purchase tickets for $10.
