The Arroyo Singers present “What Sweeter Music” featuring carols, Chanukah songs and a sing-along or two on Dec. 9 at 3 p.m. at Oneonta Congregational Church (1515 Garfield Ave.).
The group is now under the direction of Dr. Alan Wellman who has taken up the reins of retiring Music Director Dr. James Reitzell who led the group for 24 years.
Dr. Wellman, obtained his Ph.D. from Graduate Theological Foundation (Mishawaka, Ind.). He has a master’s of music in choral conducting from California State University, Los Angeles, and a bachelor’s of music, with a vocal/choral emphasis, from Roosevelt University (Chicago). Dr. Wellman is also currently the artistic director of the Claremont Chorale and is on the faculty of Polytechnic School in Pasadena.
Nonna Ayrapetova, accompanist was born and educated in Russia where she performed frequently as a pianist. After immigrating to the United States she completed her master’s degree in music at Cal State University. She currently teaches, performs and works as a professional accompanist for several schools and organizations in addition to The Arroyo Singers.
