After receiving numerous recommendations and requests of community members who volunteered to serve on the community panel to interview Pasadena police chief candidates, Steve Mermell has selected the following city residents to represent the community in the interview process:
While affiliations are provided they are merely for background, each person is serving as an individual and not a representative of any group or agency, as per Mermell’s announcement.
In a written statement, Mermell shared the following:
“Selecting the community members was a difficult task given the significant level of interest on the part of many. While the responsibility for the selection of a chief of police rests ultimately with me, it is important that our community have a voice in the process, as indicative of our multiple town halls and solicitation of resident feedback, as well as the establishment of this community panel. The panel represents valuable and independent perspectives based on long years of service to our community and, for some, through the particular positions they hold or have held. I look forward to receiving their candid and honest feedback, which is an important part of the selection process.
“The community panel will interview the finalists for the chief of police position, all of whom are presently serving at a commander level or higher position within a police agency. Based on their experience and qualifications, they are all capable of doing the job, but determining who is the ‘best suited’ for our community requires careful consideration.
“I want to thank all of the city residents who were willing to serve our city on the community panel and I am confident that we have outstanding candidates for the panel to consider.”
