The Arcadia Friends of the Historical Society presented the Ostashay Scholarship to Yulissa Hernandez Tuesday night. Hernandez is the first young woman Police Explorer to be chosen for this honor.
Edward Ostashay retired from the Arcadia Police Department in 2002. Eddie O, as he was fondly referred to by fellow officers, passed away in 2013. The scholarship was posthumously established by the Friends of the Arcadia Historical Society in memory of, and in tribute to, Ostashay. It is of note that he was instrumental in restoring the historic 1959 Ford Galaxy police car that is seen at local events in and around Arcadia.
