Each year the Monrovia Coordinating Council honors an outstanding young person with its Youth Recognition Award. This is given to a Monrovia resident enrolled in 6th through 12th grade to recognize outstanding humanitarian/altruistic efforts in which the nominee engaged in selfless actions for the benefit of others. An individual or a group of young people can be considered for the award.
Other than the requirement of residence and grade level, the criteria may include the following:
– Extraordinary volunteer efforts,
-Unusual actions to assist another youth or adult,
– Acts of heroism, or
-Actions of a human nature
A community organization, school, church or individual can make a nomination. For further information contact Nancy Matthews, president of the Monrovia Community Coordinating Council. The deadline is Wednesday, February 28th. A nomination and a written personal recommendation should be sent to Matthews atNancy.NLMconsulting@gmail.com
The recipient of the award or in the case of a group being recognized, a representative of the group and their parents or a chaperon will be guests of the Coordinating Council at the April 2nd General Membership meeting for the presentation of the award. In the case of a group being the recipient, the Youth Award Coordinator will make arrangements for a Coordinating Council member to attend a meeting of the group to make the presentation so all the members of the group can be recognized for their efforts.
