With the temperatures hovering high in the 90’s Recreation Park is a great location to find relaxation from the menacing heat wave.
With its canopy of trees and squirrels scampering around and the sound of woodpeckers pecking on telephone poles it was a great day to be in the park.
Last Saturday, Second Baptist Church of Monrovia held its Annual Family Festival started under its current leader Bishop William La Rue Dillard.
The DJ, Rodney Dough, filled the air with the soulful sound of music. The children played various games and the sound of Dominoes hitting the table could be heard.
What’s a festive occasion without food?
Summit Catering answered the call; hamburgers, hot dogs, BBQ Chicken, corn on the cob, hickory baked beans and, of course, ice cream.
Councilman Larry Spicer was seen making several trips to Philly Gourmet Ice.
This event, for the last 5 years, has been dedicated to former Deacon Ben Jones who passed away.
Thelma Jones, his widow, has covered the cost of catering this event for the last five years.
