Michele Hanisee, the president of the Los Angeles Deputy District Attorney’s Association, gave a detailed presentation to the Monrovia City Council on the impacts of Assembly Bill 109 (AB109) and Proposition 47 and 57, which address law enforcement as well as the judicial and criminal justice system.

Members of the Monrovia City Council welcomed Hanisee and were eager to hear her presentation, especially with the growing concern of criminal activity rising within the city. At the presentation, City Manager Oliver Chi shared information about the city’s recent increase in criminal activity. As a part of the city’s Taking back our Parks and Streets Campaign to better educate our population as to the situation, Chi presented a brochure and fact sheets the city has prepared and a sample letter to legislators regarding the problem.

Hanisee’s presentation addressed how AB109 and the two propositions have actually been working in the real world in regards to law enforcement. Her presentation is available on Youtube by searching for Monrovia City Council May 2.2017. The presentation begins at approximately 2 hours and 20 minutes into the program and is well worth watching in its entirety.

She gave exact numbers and discussed the impacts of the legislation and propositions to law enforcement and the justice system. In order to recap these more clearly, a separate article appears in the online version of this publication: www.monroviaweekly.com
