Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department Homicide detectives continue to assist the South Pasadena Police Department investigate the circumstances surrounding an officer-involved shooting that occurred on Sunday, Oct. 9, 2016, at approximately 4:26 a.m.

Detectives have learned that two women, a 48 year-old mother and her 22 year-old daughter, were inside the upper level of their home when they discovered an intruder, an unknown male adult, walking in the lower level.

Upon seeing the suspect, the women fled to the upstairs bathroom where they barricaded themselves from the approaching suspect. The suspect attempted to break through the bathroom door in an attempt to gain entry. When his attempts failed, the suspect proceeded to ransack the bottom level of the residence. The mother called 911 and notified the South Pasadena Police Department of the incident.

Officers from the South Pasadena Police Department responded and quickly entered the residence. As the officers walked up the stairs towards the second floor, they were confronted by the suspect. It was at this time that an officer-involved shooting occurred. The suspect then fled from the officers towards a bedroom where he proceeded to barricade himself. The officers contained the location and used a ladder to rescue the mother and daughter from the bathroom window.

Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department Special Enforcement Bureau deputies (SEB) were notified of the situation and responded to the location to assist the officers with the barricaded suspect. SEB deputies arrived on scene and made entry into the location. The suspect surrendered and was taken into custody without incident.

While in custody, it was discovered that the suspect had been struck in the shoulder by gunfire. The suspect was transported to a local hospital where he was treated and later released.

The mother and daughter were not injured during the incident. No officers were injured during the incident, and the suspect, a 48 year-old male white, was arrested and booked for burglary.

The investigation is on-going.
