New Stop Signs to be Installed

The Monrovia City Council has approved the placement of new stop signs at three intersections: Mayflower Avenue at Evergreen Avenue and at Diamond Street; Raymond Avenue at Pomona Avenue; and Raymond at Railroad Avenue.

Mayflower has increased traffic due to its proximity to the Gold Line Station. The Traffic Safety Committee (TSC) requested that a study of this area be conducted as result of the potential increase in traffic.

That study, which was concluded in March, indicated that the additional stop signs were needed. There are currently stop signs on Diamond and on Evergreen for east and westbound traffic. The new stop signs will be on Mayflower to regulate north and southbound traffic.

The other two stop signs will be on Raymond where it meets Pomona on the north and Railroad on the south. Raymond ends in “T” intersections at both streets. The TSC recommended stop signs at both these intersections to help safely regulate traffic. While stops are implied at such “T” intersections, they are not always observed by the general public.

Last Monday, the city began notifying the general public of the stop signs by posting message boards at the intersections for two weeks prior to the installation of the new stop signs.
