On Tuesday, June 28, Monrovia engaged in several update meetings, regarding the current status of the San Gabriel Complex Fire.
Based on the latest available information, the overall situation has stabilized and the overall fire threat has subsided.
At this point in time, unless a separate fire incident occurs, Monrovia should not be impacted by the San Gabriel Complex Fire.
Given this update, the incident management team is continuing to de-escalate the overall fire response and they have continued to release personnel and equipment throughout the day.
Currently, there are 70-plus personnel assigned to address the portion of the fire nearest to Monrovia and most of these individuals are accessing the hillsides to fight the fire through Canyon Park. The group is currently utilizing the lower parking lot to stage and a variety of heavy equipment is located on site.
Furthermore, based on the current progress that has been made, by Thursday, June 30, the city has been notified that all Los Angeles County firefighting forces should be released and the overall management of the fire incident will be given back to the US National Forest Services.
At that point in time, the US National Forest Service has indicated that they will manage the fire response with a Type III Team, which consists of 10 to 20 personnel.
While the city is happy to report that the fire threat for Monrovia has subsided, it is important to emphasize that the city is still taking all necessary precautions here locally.
To that end, the closure of Canyon Park and the Hillside Wilderness Preserve will be maintained through July 7, 2016. Furthermore, the city has continued to ensure that all reservoirs are filled at 100 percent capacity, in the event that water access is needed for firefighting activities.
With the current fire situation having stabilized, this will be the final city update regarding the status of the San Gabriel Complex Fire.
Of course, should the situation change at all, in such a scenario, public information outreach mechanisms will be re-activated to begin sending out additional information.
