The Pasadena Unified School District (PUSD) has reached a tentative agreement with United Teachers of Pasadena (UTP).
The multi-year deal calls for an ongoing 6 percent salary increase for all UTP bargaining unit salary schedules retroactive to Jan. 1, 2016. Based on funding from the state to be announced by the governor in May 2016, teachers may also receive an additional increase in the 2016-17 academic year. Health and welfare benefits are to remain status quo. On the matter of involuntary transfer language, PUSD and UTP agreed that this will occur to meet the programmatic needs of the district.
According to the tentative agreement, negotiations for 2017-18 will be for salary only and health and welfare benefits will be negotiated for the 2018-19 academic year.
This agreement comes after a comprehensive review of the district’s budget. Board of Education President Kimberly Kenne commented, “In negotiations, the board remains committed to finding a fair agreement for our teachers and employees while ensuring our district’s financial stability. We value our teachers and staff as key partners in providing our students with a quality education. I am pleased we have reached a tentative agreement with UTP.”
“Retaining and attracting excellent teachers and staff are a top priority for PUSD,” stated Superintendent Brian McDonald. “We will remain steadfast in our efforts to provide the world class education that our students and their families deserve.”
