On Saturday, March 5, the city of Arcadia is slated to party like it’s 1999 … or, at least, when light rail was king in Los Angeles with the Pacific Electric Railway getting people to places without the hassles of freeway traffic.

The celebrations will be at several stations along the foothill extension but Arcadia is particularly proud of its new station and decided a party was in order to celebrate the milestone.

There will be live music, food vendors, face painting and even a model train exhibit. A kiddie train ride will be offered along with a chance to win a 30-day Metro pass.

The extension from Pasadena to Azusa will also be offering free rides all day long. The fun begins at 11 a.m. on March 5

City officials hope the Gold Line will help revitalize the downtown area of Arcadia. In conjunction with the opening of the train station in Arcadia, city planners are considering some major changes for a downtown area. See Arcadia Weekly’s article a couple of weeks ago for more details.
