Dear Editor: Where’s the Local Sports Coverage?

Dear Editor:

As I read the Arcadia Weekly, I wonder why there is little to no coverage of Arcadia High School (AHS) sports teams. I cannot help to think that you could pick up hundreds, if not a thousand new readers. AHS’s current population is about 4,000 students and a quarter of them play sports. I am sure most those parents would love to see their child’s team covered in the paper. That would be very attractive to local sports stores, physical therapy companies, private trainers, etc., who could be new advertisers.

My daughters play on the varsity soccer team, who have not lost a league game in years and will hopefully take CIF this year. Each week all the parents get other papers to read about our games which even though we win, they slam AHS. It would be great to see AHS covered by the Arcadia weekly.

As Arcadia already has a student covering the games for the school, I am sure they could get them to write an article for the paper.

Jodynne, thanks for your letter. As you will see in this issue, our intrepid intern photographer, Trevor Stramp, has been quite busy trying to cover as many local games as possible. This week he shot soccer (La Salle vs. Arcadia) and Monrovia boys’ basketball. We would love to be at every game, but, as you can imagine, for a small weekly paper this is simply impossible. However, as you pointed out, we have reached out to the high school and hope to continue to improve local high school sports coverage. Thank you for your continued interest in our newspaper(s).
