Heralded hidden gem California Philharmonic is kicking off its milestone 20th Anniversary Season by sharing a glorious gift to music lovers this holiday season with Sleigh Ride!, a Christmas concert spectacular featuring classics, holiday favorites, and more on Saturday Dec. 12, beginning at 7:30 p.m. at the Pasadena Civic Auditorium (300 E. Green St).
As always, audiences throughout the southland know to come prepared to be entertained, enlightened, and surprised by the awe-inspiring performances and programming by California Philharmonic’s maestro Victor Vener. And what he has planned for this concert will surely have concert-goers not only singing but dancing in their seats!
On tap for this one-of-a-kind holiday concert are some of the mesmerizing dancers and choreographers from the nine-time Emmy Award winning hit television show So You Think You Can Dance (SYTYCD) including season nine runner-up Cyrus “Glitch” Spencer, all of whom are appearing in association with Lythgoe Family Productions.
“It is such an honor to perform for the first time with a professional orchestra the caliber of California Philharmonic,” said Spencer who, since wowing people on SYTYCD, has been performing all across the country, shooting commercials and starring in feature films including the most recent installment of the smash-hit Step Up franchise, Step Up: All In, among others. “We will be presenting our unique art to the audience and mixing it with another form of art to make great entertainment. This is going to be epic!”
Cyrus will be joined James “B-Dash” Derrick, also from SYTYCD, and Kevin “Konkrete” Davis. The three multi-talented dancers/choreographers are joining the orchestra as they dance to the “March”, “Sugar Plum Fairy”, “Chocolate”, and “Trepak” movements of the Nutcracker.
“I am most looking forward to performing to ‘Sugar Plum Fairy’,” shared B-Dash who emphasizes the importance of musicality. “It opens minds and allows us to move our bodies to beats in ways we didn’t even think about. Our choreography incorporates different movements that the audience won’t expect but will enjoy thoroughly.”
“It has always been a goal to dance to a live orchestra. I am beyond excited,” added Konkrete, whose credits include America’s Best Dance Crew. “We have all worked together before and the rehearsals are coming along naturally. We’re ready!”
Tickets start at $20 and can be purchased at www.calphil.com or by calling (626) 304-0333.
