After months of anticipation, the old Joe’s Diner on Main Street in Santa Monica has been fully resurrected, thanks in part to another famous Joe—Joe Jonas. Hinterland opened its large, wooden framed doors this past spring and has had no problem filling seats since then. The space is narrow and features exposed wood beams, whitewashed bricks, a cozy patio, and an often-lively crowd.
Jonas joined forces with local partner Arsen Vasquez, along with famed Manhattan restaurateurs Matthew Hechter and Chris Brandon, and chef Maximilian DiMare to create a coastal New American menu boding significant Southern influences—think shrimp and grits, pork chops, spice-encrusted tuna crudo, and charred octopus with hummus, chickpeas and cucumber.
The hip, elegant ambiance (read: generous candlelight), coupled with the restaurant’s well-executed dishes makes Hinterland the ideal spot for a dreamy, low-key night out on the Westside.
Hinterland is located at 2917 Main St. in Santa Monica, CA 90405
