Professional Child Development Associates (PCDA) presents the fourth annual Teen Club Artists’ Gallery, on display now through Nov. 22, at the Armory Center for the Arts. Members of PCDA’s Teen Club have created more than 100 pieces of art to display and share with the community. Teens were able to submit any form of visual art for the exhibit, creating a show that reflects the spirit of Teen Club.
The exhibit is on display in the Community Room and is open to the public from noon to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Sunday, through Nov. 22. PCDA is also hosting a community reception on Tuesday, Nov. 3, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Members of the community are invited to view the art, mingle, and enjoy wine and light refreshments. Donations made at the reception will benefit the Carolyn Watson Creative Arts Scholarship Fund, which provides scholarships for adapted music and art lessons at PCDA.
“Art is a wonderful way for teens to express their thoughts and feelings. They have enjoyed designing these pieces of art, and in sharing their work with others,” said Dr. Diane Cullinane, executive director of PCDA. “We are excited to partner with the Armory to showcase the creativity of these young individuals to the community.”
PCDA’s Teen Club is a socialization skills training program for teens, 13 to 17 years old, with mild to moderate learning, communication, and social challenges. The group meets twice a week and the teens themselves select and plan the activities, with staff guidance, to achieve a balance of social, community service and pre-vocational events. The group provides opportunities for the teenagers to develop friendships, learn life skills in the community, explore potential work interests and develop self-advocacy.
