The Pasadena Unified School District (PUSD) launches its 2015-2016 Parent University with “Make Learning Fun,” a class for parents of children in Transitional Kindergarten-1st grade, Thursday, Oct. 8 at 8:15 a.m. at Longfellow Elementary School.
The 90-minute interactive class is taught by early education teacher specialists, who offer parents a glimpse of daily classroom activities and demonstrate research-based learning strategies that families can use at home to boost children’s foundational academic skills. Parents will learn to roll their r’s like pirates, use game pieces to reinforce counting skills, and practice using early learning apps and games on their phones. They will also make simple and fun learning games that they can take home to use with their children.
The class is free and open to all families. Spanish translation is available.
PUSD’s Parent University is a collection of classes and seminars available to district families to promote and strengthen school and home partnerships focused on student success and school improvement. Class topics include academics, preparing for college and careers, math and reading practice, special education, internet safety and the transition to middle and high school.
