Dorothy’s Place: That’s Gross

Please tell me the heat wave is over. I’m so tired of being hot. I guess there is an upside to it, though. Since the drought has caused us to ration our lawn watering, I can stand naked in the middle of my driveway, catch my sweat in a bucket then water my plants. Now that’s Gross — both the thought and the mental image.

The heat has just sapped my energy and I’m getting behind in everything. When I used to complain that I couldn’t get all my chores done, my father-in-law would always remind me, “That’s all right, Dorothy; you don’t want to finish your chores. When they are done, so are you.”

He finished his chores in 1978. I miss him still and think of him often. We would sometimes laugh together at things not everyone found laughable.

I received a photocopy today of a cartoon I know would have evoked a chuckle from him. It shows a harried, frazzled-looking woman with crossed eyes and turned down mouth. The side caption reads, “God put me on Earth to accomplish a certain number of things … right now I’m so far behind I will never die.”

That’s Gross! I’m in no hurry, but I don’t want it to go on forever!
