On Wednesday, Sept. 2, 2015, Jonathan Javier Ruvalcaba, a 29-year-old man, pleaded no contest to sexually molesting a five-year-old girl.

Ruvalcaba of Whittier pleaded no contest Wednesday to two felony counts: continuous sexual abuse and forcible lewd act upon a child.

Ruvalcaba is scheduled to be sentenced Oct. 5 in Department M of the Los Angeles County Superior Court, Norwalk Branch.

The defendant will be sentenced to 24 years in state prison. Additionally, he will have to register as a sex offender for life.

Ruvalcaba began sexually molesting the young girl in 2010 and continued the abuse for three years. DNA evidence in the case played a big role in the investigation.

On May 13, 2014, Ruvalcaba was arrested in connection with the crime. The case was investigated by the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department, Special Victims Bureau.

The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department – Special Victims Bureau is tasked with investigating the sexual and physical abuse of children and felonious sexual assaults involving adult victims.
