Caltech and the City of Duarte Public Safety Department are providing free “Map Your Neighborhood” (MAP) training with an emphasis on basic safety and life-saving skills for the neighborhood on Sept. 17, 2015. The course will be offered on a Thursday evening from 6:30-8:30 p.m. at the Duarte Community Center, 1600 Huntington Drive. Parking is available on site. MAP training is offered to participants 18 years or older.
The MAP course emphasizes the importance of preparing neighborhoods for emergencies. Data reveals that prepared neighborhoods are able to better save lives, reduce the severity of injuries, trauma and reduce property damage. Specifically, the training will cover the first nine steps to take immediately following a disaster; how to create both a skills and equipment Inventory and a “Neighborhood Map” identifying the locations of natural gas and propane tanks for a quick and targeted neighborhood response.
Interested individuals may register via email at A2Torres@lasd.org or by calling the Duarte Public Safety Office at (626) 359-5671, ext. 316.
