A 49-year-old woman has been charged with shooting her son to death at a Rosemead motel, the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office announced. Lai Yeung Hang (DOB 6/6/66) faces one count of murder with an allegation that she used a handgun in case GA096773. Arraignment for Hang was scheduled yesterday but it was continued to Aug. 12 in Department D of the Los Angeles County Superior Court, Pasadena Branch.

On July 26, Hang checked into a motel on the 8700 block of Valley Boulevard with her son, George Hang, 17, prosecutors said. The next day the defendant allegedly shot the victim while he slept, prosecutors added. If convicted as charged, Hang faces a possible maximum sentence of 50 years to life in state prison. Bail was set at $2 million. The case remains under investigation by the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.
