Ready for some new new on the Eastside? We are. Familiarize yourself with HomeState, the Tex-Mex breakfast and lunch spot that’s all the rage—move over breakfast burrito, this spot serves up breakfast tacos—on a flour tortilla, with one to two ingredients, in tinfoil, just like we like them late night. But here, it’s wrapped up for go-time deliciousness. Red salsa included.
Homestate is helmed by Austin import Briana Valdez, and sits at the old Storefront sandwich shop. The cheese is made from scratch. There’s a sign on the counter that reads, “Welcome Home,” and eggs are farm fresh while bacon is applewood smoked. This spot will also get your taste buds thrilled with Frito pie in a bag: a mixture of Fritos with brawny chili con carne, lettuce, sour cream, cheddar and pickled jalapeños that will ultimately have you on drool watch.
