City of Hope Wins Big at Santa Anita Park in Arcadia

The Santa Anita Bowling Green Club held the 44th annual City of Hope Tournament of the
6th of June. This year, Steven Bauchiero was the Tournament Director since Gayle Plunkett
had to turn it over due to illness. So this year Steve changed the name of the tournament to “The Gayle Plunkett City of Hope Fundraiser” in honor of Gayle ending her cancer treatment at The City of Hope. (She’s doing great now.)

There were 16 triple teams entered for the event, from all over Southern California. The lawn bowlers were divided into A and B Greens. The A green was for the more experienced Tournament
Bowlers and the B green for the less experienced bowlers. As it ended up this year, the
Winners on both greens were from Santa Anita Bowling Green Club.

On the A Green the winners were Marinko Tudor, Margi Rambo, and Alan Ngo. The winners on the B green were Shuman and Amy Chan and Bob Hauerwaas. The winners only got a small plaque for their efforts and all of the money collected from entry fees were given to The City of Hope’s
Representative Mrs. Brenda Warner in the amount of $3,425. Brenda’s City of Hope Auxiliary
in Whittier brings cookies, soda pop and cold water bottles for the bowlers each year. The effort of the Whittier ladies is greatly appreciated since they bake all of the cookies themselves.

The attendance was low this year with only 16 teams entered. The event has a maximum of 28 teams’ capacity, and we’re hoping to have more teams next year.
