A former English teacher at an elite private girl’s school charged in February with having a sexual relationship with a female student faces new charges involving a second student, the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office announced. Joseph Koetters (DOB 8/14/67) pleaded not guilty on the amended complaint charging him with 10 additional counts in case BA433370.
He was released after posting an additional $350,000 bail. The case is being prosecuted by the Sex Crimes Division.
Koetters taught English at the Marlborough School in Hancock Park when he allegedly initiated a year-long sexual relationship with a 16-year-old female student in 2000. Between February and June 2004, he allegedly had a sexual relationship with another 16-year-old female student. The second victim recently reported the incident to police. The Santa Monica resident now is charged with seven counts each of oral copulation of a person under 18 and sexual penetration by a foreign object of a person under 18. He returns to the Foltz Criminal Justice Center, Department 31, on June 23 to set a date for his preliminary hearing. If convicted, Koetters faces more than 11 years in state prison. The case remains under investigation by the Los Angeles Police Department.
