Congress officially recognized Norooz in recent years and henceforth the rich cultural traditions of Iran have been brought forth to Pasadena thanks to one unique woman in Pasadena who put together the event during the past eight years.
Dr. Nazee Rofagha, who spearheaded the original idea for annual Iranian New Year celebrations in March went above a beyond the call of duty to make sure the events were a great success. Dr. Rofagha deserves a huge round of applause for the time she has devoted to making this celebration an annual event in Pasadena, up until now.
Congressman Mike Honda (D-CA) introduced the Norooz Resolution several years ago, stating “Norooz embodies the principle that each individual’s thinking, speaking, and conduct should always be virtuous. It promotes compassion for our fellow human beings irrespective of ethnicity or religion.
The colorful history of Iran was fêted at the celebration of Norooz at the Scottish Rite Cathedral in recent years under Dr. Nazee’s guidance. Sadly, Dr Rofagha has decided the program was becoming too much for herand will not do one this year.
Thanks to Dr. Nazee Rofagha, Norooz had become an annual tradition in the San Gabriel Valley. Unfortunately Dr. Rofagha will not be hosting an event in Pasadena this year. There are numerous events, however in Los Angeles starting March 14.
