MHS coach wins award
By Susan Motander
Once again, Monrovia High School was the scene of the Los Angeles FTC Regional Championships in robotics. Students from all over Southern California competed for a chance to go to the Western Regional Championship in Oakland next month. And once again the MHS team, the Kings and Queens, qualified for that competition.
However, they were not the only Monrovia team to compete. According to Tom Dobson, a physics teacher and the robotics sponsor at the school, the other four teams also showed well.
In reporting to his fellow teachers Dobson wrote: “The other Monrovia teams also made me proud. They made it to the championships, they competed with passion and they showed me why the future is bright (gotta wear shades!) The Suit Bots made it to the divisional semifinals before losing the eventual champion. Thavma won the Judges Award for Gracious Professionalism and RED and Spectrum were just plain Awesome.”
Dobson failed to report one very important award to his colleagues. Dobson himself won the Compass award for outstanding leadership in robotics. His five teams had worked together to nominate him for this award.
