Ex-Irwindale Cop Pleads to Sexually Molesting 14 year old girl in Explorer Program

A former Irwindale Police Department officer pleaded no contest Dec 8 to sexually molesting a 14-year old girl and sending suggestive text messages to another girl, both of whom were in the department’s
Explorer Program, the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office announced.
Daniel Camerano pleaded no contest to three felony counts, including using a minor for sex acts, oral copulation of a person under 16 and contact with minor for sexual offense.
Deputy District Attorney Renee Chang with the Justice System Integrity Division is prosecuting the case.
Camerano, who was an advisor to the department’s Explorer Program, began a sexual relationship with the 14-year-old girl between May 2009 and December 2010. The eight-year veteran also admitted sending sexually suggestive text messages to 17-year-old female Explorer in November 2012.
Camerano resigned from the Irwindale Police Department in June.
Los Angeles County Superior Court Judge Georgina Rizk ordered him to return to court on Jan. 20, 2015, for sentencing in case BA425965. Under terms of the plea settlement, Camerano will be sentenced to two years, eight months in state prison and ordered to register as a sex offender for the rest of his life.
The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department investigated the case.
