Students from Fang Cao Di International School in Beijing, China joined students from Aveson Charter School in Altadena on September 17 for a first-time 45-day cultural and educational exchange program. A total of 63 students will mix with students in grades 3-5 and 6-8.
According to Principal Long Zhang, an instructor that traveled with the group, Chinese topics including Chinese Traditional Chirography, Chinese Knot, and Beijing Opera will be shared with the American students.
Aveson students had already built relationships with many of the visiting students through emails and social media before they arrived. The Chinese students will be staying with local families for a total immersion experience with the English language and American culture. The trip was sponsored by the Beijing Municipal UNESCO Clubs Association.
