Representatives from both the city of Pasadena and the Rose Bowl will be holding a meeting at 9 a.m. on Saturday morning to discuss how a $300,000 fund to improve the Central Arroyo area should be spent, city officials said on Monday.
The fund has been set up from donations from concert promoter Live Nation and the Rose Bowl Operating Company, officials said.
The hour-long meeting will be held at the Rose Bowl’s Terry Donahue Pavilion. Parking can be found at the northernmost portion of Lot E.
“The purpose of this meeting is to get input from residents who are most affected by events at the Rose bowl, as to which projects should receive funding,” according to a notice sent out to residents by council members Jacque Robinson and Steve Madison.
The Rose Bowl has been a busy venue this year and is slated to have hosted 18 events through December. And promoter Live Nation is hosting a crowded line-up of seven concerts running through the summer months.
This comes as Rose Bowl officials are looking at the idea of approving up to 21 annual events at the iconic stadium. However, currently the city of Pasadena says just more than 12 in a year requires city council approval, according to a city ordinance.
In addition, there are plans in the works to possibly have the Rose Bowl and neighboring Brookside Golf Course host a multi-day summer music festival that could happen next summer. However, it hasn’t been announced that if the festival is approved which promoter would put it on.
Residents in the neighborhoods around the stadium have long been at odds with officials and have complained about traffic and noise coming from events at the Rose Bowl. And many are not in favor of the proposed music festival.
But the council is reportedly listening to local residents, discussing collaboration between Central Arroyo neighbors and the stadium in an effort peacefully hold events and use Rose Bowl money to help the area coexist with the stadium.
