It’s official: Jon Gundry Announces Resignation from PUSD
Gundry Named New Superintendent of Santa Clara County Office of Education; PUSD Deputy Superintendent Dr. Brian McDonald to Serve as Interim Superintendent
Pasadena Unified School District (PUSD) Superintendent Jon R. Gundry today announced his resignation as PUSD Superintendent following his selection July 16 as Superintendent of the Santa Clara County Office of Education (SCCOE). Gundry previously announced June 24 that he was the sole finalist for the SCCOE position. Gundry’s resignation is effective July 31.
“It has been my privilege to serve the students and families of Pasadena Unified,” said Gundry.
With an emphasis on 21st century learning, Gundry led the implementation of the district’s Strategic Plan and Common Core State Standards. Under his leadership, the district entered into a partnership with the city of Pasadena as part of the School, City and Community Work Plan and won a multi-million dollar federal grant to create magnet schools in the district’s historically underserved neighborhoods.
“Jon is a fine educator whose expertise as an educational leader has had a positive impact on our students, teachers and schools and the Board wishes him well in his future endeavors,” said Board of Education President Scott Phelps.
On June 26, the PUSD Board of Education voted unanimously to appoint Deputy Superintendent Brian McDonald, Ed.D. as Interim Superintendent until further notice in anticipation of Gundry’s resignation.
“I am confident that PUSD is in good hands with Dr. McDonald at the helm and that he will continue to pursue the goal of 21st century teaching and learning in classrooms across the district,” concluded Gundry.
Dr. McDonald will begin serving as PUSD Interim Superintendent August 1. For more information on Dr. McDonald’s appointment, visit https://local.nixle.com/alert/5223486/.
