

On Friday night, August 9, a Monrovia Police Officer was rolling “Code 3”, lights and siren, when his cruiser was struck by another car. The other car had failed to stop as the police car rolled through an intersection although several other vehicles had stopped.
According to the Monrovia Police Department, as the patrol vehicle began to cross the last lane of traffic, it was struck on the right rear portion, causing the patrol vehicle to travel up the sidewalk and strike a small tree. Witnesses indicated the other vehicle failed to stop for the emergency vehicle when all other traffic on the road had yielded.
According to Police Chief Jim Hunt, Officer James Ruano, who has been with the department for a “few years.” was taken to the hospital, but was released to return to work. His vehicle did not fare as well and is still being inspected for potential damage to its frame.
Ruano was responding to a call for assistance from another unit which was in the process of detained
